The lab has obtained a JAE Intro ICU funded by the Conexión Microbioma. This is a 6-month grant of 700 euros/month for Bachelor's or Master's students, who want to get a first experience in research.
We are happy to announce a new preprint on a methanotrophic biofilm from the Ginsburg Mud Volcano (Gulf of Cadiz). The preprint was based on the Master theses research from Cleopatra and Pedro during their time at the Museum. It investigate the microbial community of this deep-sea biofilm using geochemistry, lipidomics and metagenomics. We...
Alejandro and Rafa have authored an opinion paper on the role of artificial intelligence to produce new antibiotics using the archaeal proteome.
In the last week, two articles on marine microbial communities, where Rafa is a coauthor, have been published. Both use next-generation sequencing methods to explore the taxonomy, ecology and metabolism of marine microbiomes in different latitudes: from the tropics to the poles.
From the 14th to the 17th of October we have been part of the XIX REDEX, the 19th meeting of the Spanish Network of Extremophiles that took place at Huelva. The lab had two oral presentations given by Víctor and Alejandro and one poster explained by Rafa. We could present our newest results on the ARGOS project, on the resistome...
The lab has participated in the last Sympsium of Aquatic Microbial Ecology (SAME18) held in Barcelona from the 28th of September until the 3rd of October 💧
Alejandro, Víctor and Rafa have participated with more people from the department at the 2025 European Researcher's Night celebrates at hundred of institution accross Europe.
In the last weeks, Rafa has published two outreach articles in different Nature journals. Both pieces are a must read for archaea enthusiast!
Claudia Baeyens González started today her three-months internship with Alejandro. She studies a Bachelor in Biology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is particularly fascinated by microbial ecology, metagenomics, and evolutionary biology. Therefore, she came to the group to learn more about bioinformatics and metagenomics. Her focus will...
