I am an environmental microbiologist with a great interest on using bioinformatic approaches to study microbial metabolism and evolution. My research has focused on archaeal metabolism, environmental metagenomics and cultivation of novel microorganisms. Currently, I use next-generation sequencing technologies to link microbial function in different environments: from urban wastewaters to the polar regions.

We are excited for the new publication from the group! 🙌 The article describes the changes in an Arctic community from winter to summer using samples obtained from a 2014 cruise 🐻❄️🦠🌊, . It includes metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data, providing a unique dataset to understand microbial dynamics in the Arctic Ocean. Our research was focused on the nitrogen cycle. We observed how the microbial community changes from a winter situation where nitrification was prevalent to a summer scenario where heterotrophic bacteria compete for different nitrogen sources.
